  1. What data is necessary to meet ASTM F2170 test report requirements? Is all the data listed in the DataMaster™ necessary?
  2. A: The DataMaster™ automatically records the following required data for correct test reporting according to the current ASTM F2170 standard: Date and Time of Measurements, Relative humidity and Temperature in each test hole, and Ambient relative humidity and Temperature above each test hole. The requirement for the Location and Depth of each test hole must be manually entered into the DataMaster™. The Name and Address of the structure, Name, Title and Affiliation of worker performing measurements are manually entered into the report when you create it at the F2170reports website. Some additional information can be stored with the DataMaster™ but are not required for ASTM F2170 reporting compliance.

  3. What does "Wagner Certified" mean?
  4. A: The "Wagner Certified" indication on a report means that every sensor on the job fell within its calibration certification date range. This is also why correctly setting the Date and Time in the DataMaster™ unit before beginning readings is critical.

  5. The website offers different formats for retrieving data results. Which is best for me?
  6. A: Once data files are uploaded to www.f2170reports.com, you have the option of creating a job report in one of several different formats: .pdf, .xls or .csv . The best format for you will depend on your preferred format for reporting, sharing or archiving the data. Keep in mind that the .pdf (Adobe® Acrobat's portable document format) file will be the format that conforms to the ASTM F2170 report requirements.

  7. Do I need an account to participate in the forum?
  8. A: Yes, we invite all engineers, contractors and moisture testing experts to participate in our forum to share experiences and ideas, but do request that an account be set up for member participation. Registering is simple and easy.

  9. Is my test data or job information visible on the forum?
  10. A: No. Once uploaded, you will determine who is able to view your data. Data is NOT viewable on the forum unless you expressly post some data there for discussion.

  1. I can't upload files to the website www.f2170reports.com.
    • First, you must create your unique user account. The sign up option is available on the home page.
    • Once you have created your user account, you must sign in. From there, select "Reports". Follow the prompts to begin uploading your data.

  2. I cannot find my SD card on my computer when I'm ready to upload.
    • Be sure that the USB cable is properly connected to both the DataMaster™ device and your computer. The DataMaster SD Card will appear as a "thumb drive" on your PC. Alternately, insert the SD card from your DataMaster™ into the slot on your computer or any standard card reader connected to your computer. Next, click on "Upload Files" then select "Browse" and find the appropriate drive with your DataMaster™ data.

The RapidRH® DataMaster™ with Bluetooth® Reader

  1. Can my DataMaster™ be paired with more than one Bluetooth® Reader?
  2. How many DataMaster™ units do I need?
  3. How long does it take to acquire a reading?
  4. I'm not hearing a beep when a reading is acquired. Why not?
  5. How long should a battery charge last in the DataMaster™?

  7. Can the DataMaster™ touchscreen be custom calibrated?
  8. What type of SD card can I use?
  9. Can the DataMaster™ unit be used with other RH in situ probes or RH test systems?

  1. Can my DataMaster™ be paired with more than one Bluetooth® Reader?
  2. A: The DataMaster™ is compatible with any Bluetooth® Reader but can only be paired with one Bluetooth® Reader at a time.

  3. How many DataMaster™ units do I need?
  4. A: The DataMaster™ can hold data for multiple job sites and locations but the number of units that will be useful to you will depend on your particular circumstances. In order to protect data integrity, we do not recommend that multiple units be used to collect information for one job site. Contact us at 800-634-9961 or 541-582-0541 to discuss the best solution to your individual situation.

  5. How long does it take to acquire a reading?
  6. A: Once the Bluetooth® Reader is correctly inserted into an installed Smart Sensor, it may take up to 15 seconds to acquire the reading. The DataMaster™ will beep to indicate a reading has been acquired, or the serial number will display on the unit's screen.

  7. I'm not hearing a beep when a reading is acquired. Why not?
  8. A: Check the Backlight & Sound option in the Settings Menu. If the sound has been turned off, readings will only be indicated by watching the DataMaster™ screen for the Smart Sensor serial number to appear.

  9. How long should a battery charge last in the DataMaster™?
  10. A: As with any device, battery life is determined by a number of factors including frequency of use, settings chosen and care taken when storing the device. Both the DataMaster™ and the Bluetooth® Reader are programmed to reduce power consumption (i.e. dim the touchscreen) or to go into a sleep mode after certain time intervals of inactivity in order to conserve battery power. Battery life for the DataMaster™ unit can be further extended by reducing the Backlight feature on the unit and by turning off the sound feature. Regularly charging the DataMaster™ unit will ensure that it is fully functional when needed.

Both the DataMaster™ and the Bluetooth® Reader battery charge levels can be viewed through the Battery option on the Settings menu of the DataMaster ™ unit.

  11. What kind of battery does the DataMaster™ use?
  12. A: The DataMaster™ battery is rechargeable and can be easily recharged with a USB cable via computer or AC USB adaptor.

The Bluetooth® Reader uses two AAAA batteries. Its sophisticated power-saving design greatly reduces the need to change the batteries frequently.

  13. Can the DataMaster™ touchscreen be custom calibrated?
  14. A: Each DataMaster™ touchscreen has been carefully calibrated prior to shipping. We recommend NOT recalibrating the touchscreen unless absolutely necessary. When required, the Calibration option can be found on the Settings menu. For precision, use a stylus or pencil eraser tip when performing this operation and follow the onscreen directions exactly.

  15. What type of SD card can I use?
  16. A: The DataMaster™ will accept any standard SD memory card and will not function without an SD card in the SD card slot. The SD card must be formatted and unlocked to acquire data. Note: For certain functions, a 2 GB SD card is necessary for the feature to function. See your manual for full information.

  17. Can the DataMaster™ unit be used with other RH in situ probes or RH test systems?
  18. A: No. The DataMaster™ and Bluetooth® Reader are designed to work with the Rapid RH™ 4.0 EX RH test method. The Bluetooth® Reader’s unique Touch-n-Sense™ technology is designed to combine with the Smart Sensor's patented technology for fast, accurate RH test results.

However, the data stored on the SD card with the DataMaster™ unit can be uploaded to any computer for use in a spreadsheet or custom reporting format. We do strongly recommend generating all reports, however, through www.f2170reports.com for ultimate data integrity and ASTM-compliant reporting.
